Greek Art Workshop

Greek Iconography and Icon Painting. 3 days workshop led by Maria Panou

Maria Panou is Greek in origin. She studied painting and byzantine iconography in Athens at the Academy of Fine Arts.

She also studied dance and dance theatre. She has worked as an assistant teacher of iconography in a private painting

school in Athens as well as a dance teacher for children. In combination of painting and dance she has created workshops

about movement and mask making for children in Greece and in Ireland.

Byzantine iconography is the religious art of the Byzantine Empire - Eastern Roman Empire,

3th - 4th century a.d. as an established art of the Empire. The religious character of the art traces its

origins to the tradition of ancient Greek painting, as it formed in the Mediterranean following the Empire of

Alexander the Great. Today, art is still very much alive in Greece and the technique is almost the same as

it was in ancient times. Byzantine iconography is a living art form almost 2000 years old!

We look forward to seeing to you there!
