Basic Principles of Drawing and Painting (adult workshop)

1st meeting – Drawing, 19th May (6-9pm)

COMPOSITION - practical tips of how to build a composition

(Estimated time: approximately 20-30m.)

• Positioning elements (objects)

• Organizing space

• Proportion and measure

• Examples of different kinds of compositions from the Art history

• Construction analysis upon a composition of a well known painter

 

Practice

(Estimated time: approximately 2.50h.)

• Drawing still life (indoors) using pencil or charcoal

2nd meeting - Drawing, 21st May (6-9pm)

VALUE and VOLUME - practical tips of how to create different value tones.

(estimated time: approximately 20-30m.)

• Light and Shadow -observing light and drawing its limits

• Creating volume from shapes using value scale in a drawing.

• Examples showing the connection between value and volume upon drawings of well known painters.
  

Practice

3rd meeting – Painting, 26th May (6-9pm)

COLOR - Practical tips regarding the use of color

(Estimated time: approximately 20-30m.)

• Color theory – primary and secondary colors

• The attributes of colors - hue, value and intensity

• Light and shading - the affect of light and the illusion of depth

• The Impressionists

• Color and space organization in Van Gogh’s and Gauguin’s landscapes

• Cezanne’s colour studies upon still life with fruits
  

Practice

(Estimated time: approximately 2.50h.)

• Using materials and color mixing

• Drawing and coloring an “imaginary landscape”

 

4th meeting - Painting, 28th May (6-9pm)

(a 2 hours lecture for adults)

• Practice in landscape – discussion – conclusions

• Notes and references on drawing and color painting will be given

• During the lessons a Power Point presentation will also be available

The lecture will be followed by a Power Point Presentation.

Mythical Creatures: Kid’s workshop (6 hours):

Mythological creatures - in ancient Greek mythology – in literature and art - the Golem – Leonardo’s creatures.

• Introduction

• Ideas

• A Power Point Presentation of art works including fantastic creatures

• Bosch, Leonardo’s drawings and more

• Painting the figures in big cartons from paper boxes

• Cutting out the figures and making 2D sculptures standing on the floor

• Animate the figures of fantastic creatures inventing story for photographs

• Exhibition of children’s works along with photographs
